Your question doesn't quite make sense. I assume you actually meant:
"Whatever happened to the MAXFILES command in DOS 3.3? Is there an

The answer to which is that you don't need one. BASIC.SYSTEM
automatically handles memory allocation for file buffers. You can
have up to 8 files open under ProDOS, assuming you don't run out of
memory first.
Every time you open a file, BASIC.SYSTEM creates a new buffer (1k)
above Applesoft's variables. The strings are moved down by 1k. When
the file is closed, the buffer is released and the strings are moved
back up again.
If there is less than 1k of free memory, you can't open any more files.
