I didn't know there *was* a freeware version of Applewriter.  In fact, I
didn't know anyone besides my wife and myself that still used it.

First hint, type Open-Apple-? (i.e. open-apple-question mark).  That gives
a help menu unless "they" changed it.  There are some things that probably
aren't explained that way, but that covers most of th basics.  To do DOS
functions, type control-o.  To get "other" functions and change some features
of your operating environment, type control-q.  To print, type control-p,
which asks for a print command.  np<CR> will then print.  ?<CR> will give you
the print parameters.  You can place print commands in a document by putting
them on a separate line starting wtih a period, for example:
.ff
to do a formfeed, or:
.lm16
to set the left margin to 16, etc.
