When the IIGS was released, Apple's rule-of-thumb was "once you have three
or more boards in your machine, buy one of our fans".  The Apple fan
connects directly to the power supply, and plugs into the fan socket on
the back edge of the motherboard.  You should be able to connect any small
fan to it (of course, matching specs and such).

According to the schematic diagram in the Hardware Reference, the fan
connector has one +12V pin; the other leads to ground.
