allocating the SHR screen with the Memory Manager before you start writing to
it.

Ok, here's my suggestion (although you've proobably tried it, this seems to be
the BEST way of going about it): set the SCB's for each line to zero, then make
all colors in color table $0 BLACK ($000).  Then when you turn on the display,
it will show only a BLANK, black screen!  This is also the fastest way to clear
the display to black.  If you want, you can then fade in all the colors once
you've drawn everything you want.  Hope this helps...
