Here's a question for those of you who still remember the Disk ][. My
drive's spindle rubs against the bottom of the case and the disk can't
spin up to the right speed. I suspect that there's some sort of collar
missing on top of the spindle that's supposed to keep it at the right
height, but I haven't found any worn pieces inside my drive. The
spindle does have more than 1/8" of play, however, so it seems as if
there should be something in there.
ASCII graphics:
______
hypothesized _\ /______\ <-- hub for disk
collar / | | <-- sleeve in which spindle spins
location |__|
__||__ <-- spindle sticking out
[______] <-- disc which takes driving belt
---------- <-- case bottom
Does anyone know what the real deal is and what can be done to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
