       Does he still write for BYTE?  Maybe you could contact him through BYTE
   and ask for any documentation or source code that he might have kept.  This
   piece of hardware sounds like a hacker's delight!

Well, he started his own mag, Circuit Cellar Ink, and he occasionally 
contributes. The Circuit Cellar Ink BBS had some software for the
SSI-263, the speech synthesizer chip that he used, but  not the Lisner 
code. 

BTW, Radio Shack used to sell the  recognition chip, but not anymore. I
fortunately bought one before they discontinued it :) Now if I can
only find some time to actually build a circuit for it... :(
