Printer driver information.
I am kinda new to this GSOS driver stuff. I would like to know some
things. I am trying to print out raw text to a character device. I right
now generate a list of character devices. I do this by using the DInfo
call with subsequent numbers starting from 1 and up till I get a $11 error
code. I check to make sure it is a not a block device. This should mean
it is a character device. I also check to make sure the device can be
written to. I then try to generate a list of what the actual devices are.
To do this I tried tech notee IIgs #93. It states:
"You can use the GS/OS call DInfo to loop through all drivers and prepare a
list of character drivers. You can then change their device IDs into text
phrases, place them in a list, and prompt the user to select one. This
call usually results in a list such as "Printer port, Modem port, Remote
Print Manager, Printer interface, Text screen [the Console driver]." You
may wish to change the names of the devices slightly to make the choice
easier (e.g., "netword printer" instead of Remote Print Manager")."
O.K. So I look through all the books I have at the IDs and I nowhere
see which one is a Printer port or a Modem port let alone a Remote Print
Manager or Printer interface. (The Console driver I got of course.). The
names I get are SCSI printer, Serial printer, Serial LaserWriter, Character
devic driver(generic), ect. Nothing about Printer port or Modem port or
any of the others.(well again exclude Console driver.) AQm I missing
somthing? What gives? Is how to get the other names given in the driver
manual?(Something I thought you only needed for programming drivers.) Is
there other ways of doing this? Anything would be helpful.
