Brendan, I showed your 11/23/92 document to our hardware guy (Chris), and his
diagnosis (based only on limited information, of course) was that software
had configured the 8530's TRxCb pin to an Output state instead of an Input
state, which would cause it to fight with the incoming CTS signal.
