Re: Future of the II line (???)



Well, I've been following this thread for quite a while now... I always
thought a good way for the Apple II to really get somewhere would be to used a
different microprocessor, especially one that looks more like it's evolving.
I know, I know, most of you guys are immediately thinking of how Apple did
that to us with the Mac, but there are RISC chips out there that's suppose to
have programmable microcodes, in fact, it was said to be able to emulate the
68040/80486 at about 20 Mhz... a 20 Mhz gs sound great to me!  :)  But
seriously, I'm sure if we used it to emulate the 65816, it can probably go
faster.  Other than being compatible with the older softwares, one could
also make use of the RISC instructions (sort of like an assembly's assembly
so that programs would run even faster!)

Personally, I think if this was what Apple Inc had done, a lot more A2
users would have moved to the Macs (hmm, but then again, maybe not...)
