This makes me think maybe there's a volume control on the sound card you don't
have turned up. On my Sonic Blaster, there are (I believe) two little dials on
the actual card that we had to turn up to about medium volume level. They
usually come boxed with the volume all the way down, so you don't accidently
blow your ears out if you hook it to an amp the first time you use it. I'd try
looking back through the instructions for a manual volume control. At least
with Sonic Blaster, I think it says to keep it at medium volume if you plan to
use an amp (I have it hooked to my stereo) and up farther if you don't.

I'd still try checking the manual volume (on both/all of your sound cards). If
that's not it, I don't know...
