If you're running under BASIC.SYSTEM you should be able to do a:

printf("\x04pr#3\n");

Which would be the equivalent of

PRINT CHR$(4) ; "PR#3"

in BASIC.

Just JSR'ing to $C300 will overwrite the KEYIN and CHAROUT vectors in
the zero page, which are redirected via the operating system when one
is installed. This will disconnect it, requiring a call to the re-
entry vector at $03D0.

Grab a copy of Beneath Apple ProDOS or the ProDOS TRM to see where the
vectors should be patched inside ProDOS.
