I'd argue that the cc65 team is equally as talented, just less focused
on a single platform.  cc65 does produce faster and smaller code.

True, Aztec C was written for the Apple II by Apple II experts.  It is
without question the most complete and advanced C for the Apple II
(IMHO of course).
