The Apple II+ can have it's memory expanded but if I recall, you need
to patch AppleWorks to recognize the memory.

There was an application called PlusWorks that did this.  Also,
because of the keyboard configuration of the II+, I think you need to
do some keyboard modification as well.

I'm not an expert, but recalling what I read from way back in the
days.
