I get drastic ideas when I go browsing around my local thrift store.
I bought this: http://picasaweb.google.com/simplepractices/Posts#5356176024754746674
It's a USB-to-serial adapter for the SiPix A6 printer, which has an 8-
pin mini-DIN serial connector. These adapters usually behave as
straight-through cables. With the proper 8-pin F-F mini-DIN coupler
and a cheap standard serial cable (like that used to connect an
ImageWriter printer), I can connect from my Windows box to my IIgs.
Total cost is something like $5.
The Windows driver creates a pseudo-COM port and I am able to fire up
HyperTerminal (maybe even ADTPro) to send data to the IIgs. I needed
the latest drivers from http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31
Which leads to another question -- has anyone tried to use the SiPix
A6 printer as a simple teletype printer for the IIgs (or IIc with the
proper mini-DIN to DIN adapter)? Aside from being a teletype printer,
does it support other printer codes or page languages similar to other
printers supported in GS/OS? It's so cheap now (about $15) to not
even try...
