Sniping with the max you are willing to pay is the only way to go on
Ebay for an item you really want.  It will get you the lowest price
possible given other bidder's pocket depth, as well as the best odds
of winning.  Bidding early is worse than pointless if there's any
chance someone else wants the same item; all it does is give them time
to psyche themselves into putting more money in and generally raising
the winning price.  And if they bid early they give anyone else that
time too (including you... just save the bid till the last few
seconds).

I had no idea that some Apple ][ items had gotten up that high in
value.  Impressive.  I may have to go through all my old boxes of
stuff...
