Ok *BUT*, maybe you don't need to apologize. You've done a huge amount of
work on this.

I need to apologize for getting p*ssy but that's a different issue.

It occurs to me that if the source code was available to you then you could
make your changes directly to the source and quit mucking around with
patches that break between assemblies. Yes your work is very well done and
all that, but I for one would rather see your code included in the
distribution.

Otherwise, what is the real point in only having one distribution if the
distributor can change-up a version without changing the version number
thereby breaking a stable patch? As an ISO 9000 Team Leader and a firm
believer in configuration management I am resisting an urge to use my bigger
hammer to smash the fingers that used the keyboard that built the version
that broke the patch that Hugh Hood built.

This underlies the need for open source or a patch submission process. To
transfer support to the community one must also ensure that the community
has control over what it is supporting.

The technical term that I am familiar with is "trying to hit a moving
target'.

Anyway, my apology is for being nasty to you. Your apology on the other hand
is for not realizing that there would be at least 2 version 3.1's and maybe
even more:) I don't really get why you are apologizing but I accept:)
