May I suggest the vents under the keyboard, near the speaker might be more suitable, considering they are closer and iirc, wider -- or at least not as

According to my measurements (and my guess about Apple's "style" folks,
the under-keyboard slots are the same width as the top slots. And I'm
a little worried about interference with the keyboard.

But if it works, I'm for it! ;-)

One of my //c+ cases was bought damaged off ebay as a spare so I am not squeamish about hacking this one.

For this under keyboard approach to work it would require a shallow SDCard connector and it would still have to stick out some.

Getting fancy it might be possibile to design a plastic cover that would clip to the grill under the keyboard and the 4 wire spi cable could be routed through the grill to the PCB.

It's not as popular but a miniSD might be a possible compromise or an under keyboard internal socket.

A MicroSD card there should be no problem through the slot ... but the MicroSD is so small it doesn't stick out much past the end of the socket so it would awkward to put it there as well.

Looking on top of my //c, the 8th slot over from the left (so just to the right of the keyboard button) there is a slot space between the 5.25 drive and the power supply that looks like a good possibility. On the //c+ it looks like it would be the 9th slot over.

er: Card thickness, it's hard to say for sure as I have found my true SDCards seem to fit but the MicroSD to SDCard adapters are a little thicker and will not. I guess it really depends on the manufacture you have.
