The USB to Apple Floppy interface would be cheaper than CF. Anyone who can't afford CF hasn't got much choice right now but to use ADT or some other serial solution or to fool around with a NIC. That Microdrive of mine is wonderful but admittedly I am spoiled.

Actually, I don't think the cost would be much different.

In each case, there's a USB interface to a microcontroller.
In fact, the floppy controller will require some RAM, too.


This is a nice one chip design that could probably handle the chore. I used one in an astronomy camera. It has the benefit of being very easy to download code and high quality, free development tools.
