Not ADB, 9-pin. There are different flavors of the DE-9 mouse. All of
them work with the Mac 512K/Plus but not all of them work with the
IIc.

There is no 9-pin ADB.  That's an earlier dedicated mouse interface.

And IIRC, you're right about the IIc being picky about its mouse...
The way the mouse interface was "overlaid" on the IIc game port
led to some tighter margins.
