There's no volume knob, but you can alter the volume level of the output
with clever coding. Examples include Ultima II (the teleport gate noise)
and Airheart (the sound emitted by the Bad Things gets louder as you get
closer).
If your interest has more to do with working on sound projects late at
night, you should be able to google up some Apple II hardware volume
control projects, or just pack some stuff around the speaker.
