Years ago on this newsgroup there were many "lively discussions" (some would 
call them flame wars) between two groups.  One group aligned themselves with 
one poster (cturley, aka Dr. Tom) and the other group (led by Quantum Cat) 
against him.  The resulting humor got so out of hand that many good people 
left the group.  Eventually, Dr. Tom left the newsgroup and things have been 
pretty quiet since.  Quantum Cat disappeared as well.  Although I was here 
in those days I never really understood what the fight was about (and don't 
really care).

Recently in another thread there was a post from "Saint Isadore Patron Saint 
of the Internet" (aka Dr. Tom).

I think some of the people who were here in past times are afraid to break 
the uneasy calm so they have been intentionally vague.
