Re: Publish-It! 4?

iirc,

Zip acknowledged an issue with _some_ 8 MHz Zip Chips when used with
PublishIt!

It seems they attributed it to the specific manufacturer of the 65C02 that
was used in the particular Zip. Apparently, one brand exhibited the problem;
and one did not.

I really can't say whether that was an accurate explanation on their part
since I do not know whether at the time there was more than one manufacturer
of the higher speed 65C02's, or whether if there was, any differences
existed between their chips.

FWIW, I had quite a few 8 MHz Zips that I used in my IIe's before we
switched to IIGS's, and all of them worked fine with PublishIt!4, with _one_
exception.

When I added AE's 2 Meg Expander Board to the 1 Meg RamWorks III Card in the
machine, PublishIt!4 would freeze on launch, _IF_ the mouse, rather than the
joystick, was enabled. Since using PublishIt!4 with a joystick is painful, I
decided I could live without the 2 Meg expander.

I really like PublishIt!4, particularly since it prints PostScript to disk
as well as directly to a PostScript printer.

Remember, if you do plan to use PublishIt!4 to print PostScript via a serial
connection to most modern PostScript printers, or to disk for use later with
those printers, there's an issue with the 'Laserprep' file included with
PublishIt!4 that requires deletion of a few hexadecimal smoothing function
lines toward the end of the Laserprep file that are in there solely for use
with printers without built-in smoothing.

On a serial-connected PostScript printer with built-in smoothing, the code
will end up flushing the rest of the job, not just the smoothing code, which
results in no output.

Anyway...
