It looks like the footprint of a full-height ZIF socket prohibits mounting it
directly to the circuit board (MMU socket and decoupling cap in the way).  Am
I correct in assuming you sandwiched a machine-pin socket in between to raise
it up some?

Ack. So, the ZipChip _does_ clear the lever on the low-profile socket?? What vendor is that from? According to the dimensions that Jameco has online, it looked to me like the chip would overhang the lever on an Aries socket.
