The problem with the GIMP and Windows Users is the interface is now a bunch of floating windows and it takes an excessively long time to load... I think it's really crappy on both these counts and that could be why it hasn't caught on much in Windows.

Don't even get me _started_ on Gnome... I hate it with a passion. Sort of like wearing straightjacket. Everything works the One True Way (tm) that the developers believe in and lord-help-you if you want to customize it in any manner.

KDE 3.x may not be perfect, but it's stable, responsive and relatively easy to setup the way YOU want it rather than what someone else thinks you SHOULD want.
