Re: serial port under CP/M

Now that I have a PCPI clone card I want to play with it.
The only way I know to transfer files from the PC is using
ADT to make real floppies out of DSK images. Before
this can happen I need to create the image with the
needed files.
An obvious question is can I use the SSC to transfer
the files? AFAIK "xmodem" started on CP/M. Where
can I get it? I found dead links to "kermit" and a file
MEX.HEX that may be a communications program.

Suppose it is. Probably in HEX format so that I can
download it as a text file and use "load.com"?
If I have an SSC in slot 2, can I use PIP to get this
file?

Alex,

I think there are xmodem and mex overlays (or sources thereof) in the source tarball I sent you. If not, give me a yell privately and I'll try to find them.

There were definite speed limitations when using the host computer's serial interface, so don't expect it work fast than 9600 baud. That was the problem that Ray Klein's SIO piggyback was intended to address. It plugged onto the same headers as the banked memory expansion cards and provided a Z80 SIO and DB-25 connector.

With the CardZ180, we brought out the two serial ports on the CPU and had the 148* line drivers on the card.

If all else fails, I can put the files on an Apple disk image for you.
