Yes, you can partition your hard drive with one ProDOS and one HFS
partition but as others have pointed out, ProDOS 8 applications will
only see the ProDOS partition.
Another thing to consider is that the HFS FST for the IIgs is rather
buggy. There is a patch available that fixes one bug, although it is a
doozy, but I believe there are still other knowns bugs that haven't been
dealt with.
Even with the patch HFS FST, there are no disk utilities for HFS for
repairing a damaged HFS partition for the IIgs. This means you'd need
to partition the drive on a Mac or go through a couple extra steps when
partitioning on the IIgs to make the drive mountable on a Mac to use
disk utility software on it to repair any damamge to your HFS partition.
Finally, I personally find the HFS partition to be rather slow.
My IIgs currently has a 1.2 GB SCSI hard drive connected to a RamFAST
SCSI card with eleven 32 MB ProDOS partitions and one 788 MB HFS
partition. The HFS partition is just used as temporary storage and I
don't keep anything that isn't replacable on it.
