Re: Appletalk to ethernet

I think that depends on the model. I have a GatorBox CS; while it has the AUI
and 10Base-2 connectors you mentioned on the Ethernet side, the LocalTalk side
has a mini-DIN connector.

I think that is more usual. I was commenting on the picture on eBay.

Some more info for the original poster: connecting a GatorBox to a modern
network is a simple matter of plugging a 10Base-T transceiver into the AUI
port. (Brand names don't matter; mine happens to be an HP.) Searching eBay
for "AUI 10Base-T transceiver" should return some useful results. PhoneNet is
more convenient for connecting the LocalTalk side of things.

As far as prices go, I paid somewhere around $25 several years ago for my
GatorBox, and maybe another $10-$15 each for a 10Base-T transceiver and
PhoneNet adapters.

Prices are going up. I bought a Gatorstar about 10 years ago for an
elementary school networking project. That allowed getting macs and
localtalk printers networked easier and faster than we could get ethernet
cards for them. That was $2.25 (plus $11 shipping). Gatorstar is
a gatorbox plus 24 port localtalk repeater. Also, the gatorstar has
the transformers built-in for connecting to phone-net.
