Yes, you can use SuperConvert v4.0 to convert any graphics you have into
320 or 640 mode images using the default colour palettes.
Load your image into SuperConvert and it will display it. Click the
mouse button to go back to the desktop and then choose the "True color"
menu and select the "Convert to screen (Remap)" menu item. In the
dialog box that comes up you can change the resolution of the image from
320 to 640 or vice versa by selecting an appropriate "Graphic mode"
("640 x 200, 4 colors" or "640 x 200 dither mode" for images that look
good in the Finder) then select the "Default color" radio button under
"Palette to use" and under "Rendering algorithm" you can select either
"Closest match" or "Pattern dither" (try both to see which gives a
better result but I believe the "Pattern dither" will usually give the
best results). Save your new image and use it as your desktop.
I noticed while checking out SuperConvert v4.0 that it has an option
under the "Screen" menu to "Use as desktop background". This option
only sets the current image as the desktop until you reboot. I'm not
sure if there was something else distributed with SuperConvert that
allowed that image to be set permanently or not. Like I said, I never
used those types of programs much.
