Re: Ramdisks and IIc mass storage
> Which of these toys do you actively use? I don't mean the things that
I actively use an Apple //c with an Apple memory card (It used to have
a Z-Ram Ultra II, but it died). I use ProSel 8's Ram Driver to set up
the Ram disk, and {when I had my Z-Ram}, AE's Partition program to set
the partitions. The Ram disk comes from a 3.5" disk which loads the
Ram disk when the computer is turned on, and backups are done when
changes are made to the Ram Disk setup.
I also use my Apple II GS set up the same way - using ProSel 8 (not
16), and all of my working software (AppleWorks 5.1, ProSel utilities)
resides, and runs from, the Ram disk. This is because I am currently
without a working hard drive. Running from /Ram is faster than a HD
anyway. I have run all my computers this way for years, except for a
few years when I used a hard drive with ProSel 16.
With a lot of background from the guys on CompuServe, I published an
extensive article on how to set the ProSel ram disk on a //c, both Aux
and slinky cards; this would also apply to a //e and IIGS. If you are
interested, I will mail the article to you (US Mail only please). It
is a lot of work, but well worth it.
