Interestingly, the SCSI-IDE-CF setup seems to boot up slower than my external SCSI drive

I don't find this unusual in any way. SCSI protocol is entirely different from what CF uses, in IDE mode or otherwise. The controller has to read a SCSI command, issue an equivalent to CF, read back the data to a buffer (most likely) and then send the data back to the SCSI controller. At boot time a real disk will take some time to spin up, but in most cases the SCSI controller will wait this time regardless of the presence of a physical disk on the bus.

What I find 'MOST' interesting, and thought impossible, is that this setup has read a CF card removed from a CFFA, and directly installed into it without any repartitioning or formatting whatsoever. And it still works in the CFFA? That is most astonishing! Or, have I misinterpreted what was said?
