Comcasts solution to this is: download metering software. We're not 
going to tell you anything until you go over the 250GB/month limit. And 
what we'll tell you will be a warning to not do it again.

Personally, I installed dd-wrt in my LinkSys WRT54G v8 router. It's been 
working great and gives me an in/out count of the WAN port.

It doesn't get as detailed as what you can get from your ISP, but it 
gives me enough to show that I don't think I need to be worried about 
the 250GB/month limit.

Although, with a bandwidth cap, ad blocking software for web browsers 
now becomes mandatory on my machines, not optional.
