Found it: I killed the registry settings and it started.

Obviously it doesn't like an empty root folder, though,
as it refuses to start then.

I think you should dump the whole "root folder" idea and
let the program simply memorize the last used folder.

And you should let the program start even if there is no
image in this folder - especially if you want to support
memory cards one day...
