The latest thing in gate arrays is "sea of gates" chips with less than 
$10,000 NRE. Develop with FPGA then produce at about $1 per chip. Sell a 
thousand for $50 each. These are very low power and include the RAM AND 
EVERYTHING ELSE you might want - caps lock slipped. hate the darn thing.
