Yes, you are right.  I use a custom-cable setup consisting of 3 sections 
where section#3 is changed depending on which A2-based system to be used.

1)  PC Serial DB9/ DB25
2)  null-modem Adapter DB25/DB25  (+ gender changer(s))
3) Apple serial cable:   IIGS   (modem cable:  Mini-DIN8/DB25)  or for the
    SSC:   DB25/DB25-cable.

With ADT v.133 the default slot was identified as:  S2, slot#2 provided 
there
was a scan performed initially.  I will try to switch to #7 and see if it 
makes
a difference independently of the JP7/JP8 setting.
