I took a look at how Virtual Apple does it, and they have two separate
instances as you have suggested is necessary. It is done on the
Virtual Apple site as follows:
<!--[if IE]>
<object id="GS" codebase="gs.cab#version=2,0,0,11"
classid="clsid:052DF14F-6F28-44A0-9130-294FDA6176EB" width="704"
height="460">
<![endif] -->
<![if !IE]>
<object id="GS" type="application/x-activegs" width="704"
height="460">
<![endif]>
I wasn't aware that you could do that to differentiate the browsers,
but it obviously works.
When in doubt how a web page works, you can always "view page source".
That's what I did.
Hope this helps.
