The reason I asked, not so much the ROMs plugged into them, but the
sockets. That you have one 32 and one 28 pin ROM, that 32 pin is
probably an EPROM.
With the RAMFast and Transwarp, I have had bus errors that caused a
sliding Apple with a system error, and it said something on the error
message that I just don't ever remember seeing again.
This was dealing with the RAMFast, TranswarpGS and Apple ethernet
cards. I discovered this mess when helping out with the Second Sight
card development.
Swapping the diode on the RAMFast brought the issue with it. Just at
this moment I'm questioning myself as to which it was either glass or
plastic that was the problem.
The other issue was certain ROM 3 motherboards were also part of the
equation.
The ones with the two 32 pin Augat machine pin sockets on them,
regardless of mask or programmable ROM, had some issues come forth.
Sort of like all those revisions with the original IIgs release, there
had to be some changes in the ROM 3, though they were internal.
If you have two machine pin sockets you could also have a seed release
board, how you would know there is if you look at the word "speaker"
on the front lower right. You'll see it's over on the other side of
the RAM card slot. The seed released board had the connector over
there too. On the production release it's back over where it is on the
original release. To the right of, vs., the left of the RAM slot.
I have found the RAMFast to be very picky on termination and that it
influences a lot more than you would think and those early ROM 3
motherboards and seed boards can be picky and flaky too.
I take it you have nothing else to try the same hardware in to make
sure it's not the RAMFast itself? Try disabling term power on the
RAMFast and using term power provided by the drive and an external
terminator if you have one. Also, check the term fuse on the drive.
It's usually a pico fuse near the back end of the drive PCB, usually
marked F1. You can use a meter. If you can't find it, look at pin #26
and follow the trace on it to the first component, thats usually the
pico fuse. If it's bad, you can use a strand of wire from a shredded
stranded 14 gauge wire or similar, wrapped around it once, as a
jumper.
