Messages informing that a discussion is off-topic are on-topic, and if you 
read the other replies, the Apple people imply that this discussion is 
appropriate for the Windows UI newsgroup (the one I am reading). Therefore 
it is necessary to make it clear to them that this discussion is off-topic 
for the Windows UI newsgroup too.

Note that I was the first to politely state that this discussion is 
off-topic for this newsgroup. Therefore the issue needs to be escalated. I 
will admit that it is (hopefully) not necessary to post so many replies, but 
note that the person that created this thread does not listen very well.

You say "Win32". Win32 is a big topic with many, perhaps hundreds of 
newsgroups. This newsgroup is the Win32 UI newsgroup. Compression is not a 
UI topic. There are other Windows newsgroups that are appropriate.
