That statement is consistent with what I read here:
http://macfaq.org/hardware/network.shtml
"2.7.6 - Can I use LocalTalk Bridge to get my LocalTalk Macs on the
Internet?
Yes and no. First of all, LocalTalk Bridge will not route TCP/IP in
any way, shape, or form. [....]"
But inconsistent with what I read here:
http://www.lowendmac.com/tech/ip_on_localtalk.shtml
"Some may recall that LocalTalk Bridge wasn't compatible with OT when
it first came out, and this was because OT primarily speaks TCP/IP,
which the original LocalTalk Bridge couldn't handle properly. It used
to require an Apple IP Gateway to handle the encapsulation, but OT
rolled that into the OS."

Yes, that's what is going on.

Hmmm, an interesting thought. I don't know without some investigation.
But I'd want to be sure that whatever I am going to talk to will
actually understand it before I started off down that path.
I'm still confused about exactly what is possible. I will probably
have to try the LocalTalk Bridge method myself.
