Re: Looking for Cathleen Merritt of NAUG
To: Mike Maginnis
Mike,
Regarding posting scans of The AppleWorks Forum, you may want to email
Warren Williams at <http://www.awug.org> for permission.
I contacted him a couple of years ago about the electronic versions of The
AppleWorks Forum (know as 'NAUG on Disk') and he was willing to discuss it
with me. He still has fond memories of Apple II AppleWorks, BTW.
As you now know from other postings, Joe Kohn at Shareware Solutions II
received the rights to distribute the 'NAUG on Disk' series. It started
sometime in 1990, I believe, and contained the entire text of 'The
AppleWorks Forum', as well as corresponding templates and other software
submitted to the NAUG libraries.
I personally transferred the 66 issues of 'NAUG on Disk' to CD for Joe a
couple of years ago. Each issue was put into an 800 kb ProDOS image file. In
addition, the first 33 issues were put into an 31 Mb ProDOS image file, and
the second 33 issues were also put into an 31 Mb ProDOS image file.
Finally, all files were put in HFS folders and burned to a Hybrid PC/Mac
CD-R so that they can be read outside of mounting any image files, provided
you have something capable of reading an AppleWorks file.
I urged Joe to make this complete CD available for sale, and anyone
interested in it should contact him directly.
While 'NAUG on Disk' is good, I'd love to see .pdf scans of the actual
issues. I've collected paper copies back to '89, but I've never laid my eyes
on the stuff from '86 - '88.
BTW, I've also compiled for Will Nelken the entire 'TimeOut Central' disk
series. The project hasn't been completed yet because I promised Will for
the project that I would convert both his AppleWorks macro tutorial books
(Ultra AppleWorks and Ultra to the Max) from the original AWP files to .pdf,
and it's taken much more of my spare time than I thought to get the
formatting right. If anyone is interested in those after completion, they
can contact Will directly.
