Charlie and I have been talking via email.  The trace logs of some
failed disks he has tried indicate that client rejects a packet due
(probably) to a bad CRC.  It retries to send/verify the exact same
thing 10 times, then gives up.  Transmission and reception seems to be
good, so something's up with the verification part. When I get back in
town this weekend I'll trace the same disks with serial and see if the
verification fails the same way or not; that'll help narrow down the
problem.
