Changes have been made to the Call-A.P.P.L.E. site. We've had a talk
and decided to go simple. Issues in PDF form will be made available
through an auto-mailer.
The current issue is the 30'th anniversary issue. I'll be putting out
another one real soon now. I've been asked to delay mine for a week or
so to give people a chance to read the current issue. We've changed from
a monthly format to a quarterly format to give our writers a chance to
have a bit of a break. In my case this seems to have backfired somewhat.
Of five promised articles everybody has backed out until the next issue. :-(
Finding content is tough. Finding new content is tougher. As a result,
I am a little more liberal than Bill. Since there is a *NIX layer under
OS X, and Apple// emulators run under *NIX (come to think about it there
was an Applesoft interpreter designed to run directly under Linux) I
also accept and write generic and *NIX articles. Apple themselves have
made a link at a user group meeting I attended a number of years ago
when they said (off the record) a good alternative for those who can't
run OS X is FreeBSD. My own preference for articles are how to articles.
There are some reviews out there but they look like the authors are just
copying notes from the box and manual (some times that's a good thing -
just not all the time).
If anybody would like to write an article for the July issue (free) or
has a paying advertiser I can be contacted at
mpfaifferTAcallappleTODorg. Of course I mangled the e-mail address since
I get around 40-90 pieces of spam daily. I'll respond with a different
account since my ISP is (to say the least) very anal as to which
addresses can be used through their mail server. As an aside, it occurs
to me Americans may be breaking their own laws if they descramble the
address... Hmm... I'll have to come up with something simpler to satisfy
that regulation... In the mean time I'm sure people will find other
means to locate my address. ;-)
On a related note, Bill has asked me to pass along anything urgent
related to the web site and his other projects.
If people here would be kind enough to spread this message around to
appropriate areas I'd appreciate it. There is only so much one person
can know. As an older guy I can't keep up with the under 40 crowd quite
as much as I used to.
