Do you see the "Selection Page" that should appear right after
the title picture? This is where you choose between keyboard,
paddle and joystick control.

You also should be able to:
"Press CTRL-N to start a new game."

Pressing this will lead you to two new choices:
CTRL-C = create a new castle map only
CTRL-R = create map and reset rank to private

You probably should choose CTRL-R then.
