Re: TransWarp GS Upgrade Guide - Updated
the version C card is long ...looks like a standard //e card to fit in the
case with the diag cutoff at end of card for lid
the rev D card is basically the size of a disk ii controller maybe a bit
longer...and is square more or less
you can get the latest rev ROMs for either card (or could)
specify C or D version..but other then that not sure
of diff
the 14mhz upgrade i did like 15 yrs ago and ran the lost gonzo bbs 24/7 via
worldgroup bbs and telnet (1991 to 2005) as a rev
C card or the older version....i heard that rev C cards were more
robust...the D card is more advanced smaller circuitry
the only thing i had to do to keep it stable at 14mhz was i pop'd the lid
off the //gs upgrade
anyway this info prob? is in ap2 FAQ's or should be
the one i ran for yrs still works it also had (maybe needed to have can't
remember) the 32k daughterboard addition
and you had to cut traces on back to make the mod with the proper 16mhz? wdc
chip replacement
needless to say..i have 2 other rev D more modern cards..even thou i have
the wdc chips was never brave enough to tempt fate twice (note: I THINK i
should have heated the exacto knife before trying to cut the fine
traces..very scary xacto knife skipping across back of twgs board....dance
around swear....put it back in relief ...worked...do it again same
result..dance around swear.....see if it works...on the 3rd try i managed to
do it...and it ran at 14mhz..i swore never to do it again...my biggest 1/2
hr pain in the butt apple scare i ever had..)
anyway..that pretty much exhasts my computer "mod'ing" experience...
