I recently received an Apple II+, with two Disk ][ drives from a
family relative.
At first, at least one of the drives worked fine on the controller
card, and I was reading disks with no problems. However, when I
connected the second drive, and then powered up the computer, I got
the regular 'beep' but there was also a pop and the smell of some
circuit frying somewhere.
After turning off the computer, and disconnecting the drives, this is
what I've found:
1. The computer works fine with the interface card removed.
2. Either drive plugged into drive 1 results in the drive spinning
(red light on) but no booting/activity.
Most of the FAQ posts mention something blown on the drives, but would
I have blown both (I guess I would have heard two pops, not one). Is
the card toast? Can it be fixed? Nothing on the card appears melted
or destroyed.
Any tips?
Thanks,
C.
