I got netbooting to work, but only with Appleshare 3.0, on an mac LC,
running system 7.5, set to 24 bit mode. It was cool, but slow. And it
also worked with a IIe and a workstation card.
If you have enough floppies, or a hard drive, or a compact flash card,
it is much better to use that for booting and use the Mac as a file
server. For instance, I could not play with Synthlab while net
booted.
Unfortunately, I have never managed to get a IIe to log onto the Mac
without the Appleshare server installed. The GS has no trouble. Also,
I'm not sure that Appleshare 3 works on anything newer than a 68030.
IIRC, there was a long wait for a version of appleshare that would
work on a 68040. Then that version would not run on PPC.
I could be wrong on the last point. :-)
