FDI adds PC floppy drives and other complications to the equation. If
the new format can be generated from and used in software well
established in the Apple II community, I think it has a better chance.
I'm talking about ADTPro and AppleWin for starters.

There is not much "wasted" in the .FDI format used to store Apple II
disk images.  PD disks have much less variation than Apple II disks.
