I've been tinkering with music on the Apple II for about 5 or 6 years
now, both in terms of writing/recording and programming. I primarily use
TimeLord for drum & bass sequencing (it's a very basic sequencer of my
own devising) and RT.Synth for live playing. I also have a decent
selection of peripherals such as an alphaSyntauri and DX-1 sampler, but I
find sticking to the bare bones Apple II is more challenging/rewarding.
