I sent you an e-mail about over a year ago. I asked you a question to
see if AppleColor 100 RGB's 16 colors are identical to Apple IIgs' 16 colors
using Double High Resolution. Please let me know.
Your AppleColor 100 RGB Monitor looks fine without any problem like you
said above. It is not RGB card problem. You are talking about Double
High-Resolution. It has 4 switches below. It is not necessary to fix
hardware nor patch software. They are likely incompatible to RGB card. It
is designed to use NTSC only. If you insist to use RGB card, it is only the
option to patch software like you said earlier. You may need to find some
empty hex bytes after 60 RTS. You can add machine code to try Option 1 or
Option 2 below. It gives more room to modify.
Mode 0 - Strip Color
Mode 1 - Monochrome
Mode 2 - Mixed Monochrome & Color
Mode 3 - Color
The switch is located on $C05E. Some games always use Mode 3. You may
notice unreadable text in 80 column because it uses Mode 3. It needs to use
Mode 2. All monochrome bytes are $00-$7F and all color bytes are $80-$FF.
They are adjusted 7 pixels per byte.
I would suggest you to try. Reboot while you do not boot from 5.25"
disk. Return to Applesoft BASIC and type CALL-151 to go into monitor
prompt. Type by the following below.
Option 1:
*C05E <Return>
*C05F <Return>
*C05E <Return>
*C600G
Option 2:
*C05E <Return>
*C05F <Return>
*C05E <Return>
*C05F <Return>
*C05E <Return>
*C600G
Use either option 1 or option 2 to see if you are able to use Mixed
Monochrome & Color Mode 2 for readable text in 80 column and for games. All
Sierra games use Mode 2.
I hope this help.
