    Apple IIgs Technical Reference has more information than Apple IIgs 
Hardware Reference.  Both books give the description of I/O pinouts.  I am 
not sure what you are referring I/O programming.  If you mean softswitches 
or I/O device, I would recommend to use both useful books.
