Browsing to sites geared towards mobile devices should ease the use of older/simpler browsers.  If you go to http://m.google.com/m and do a search, Google will proxy the results through a filter that reduces the HTML complexity and attempts to reformat the page to something a bit more low-power-device friendly, even removing the images for you.
